It is an AR art installation of exhibition “The Theater of Light 2022”, National Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan.
Introduction
Growing up in military dependents’ villages, our life was like wandering in a maze, always finding happiness in unexpected discoveries around the corner. The contrast between the old and the new era’s ways of play is evident in the way we explore architectural spaces versus digital play.
- Play method one: Use your own smart device to scan the QR code, click on the link to start watching the video, and follow the video content to explore the maze from the designated starting point.
- Play method two: Rent an official iPad and use 5G AR technology to wander in both physical and virtual mazes, sometimes standing still, sometimes moving.
- Play method three: Be mindful and wander in the physical maze, enjoying the alleys, seeking beautiful lighting and angles, and taking photos to create your own light and shadow works.
Structure Design

Maze utilizes the first-ever used VPS (Visual Positioning System) AR spatial positioning technology in Taiwan, combined with a structural design, allowing the audience to freely wander within the work and precisely locate the presentation of virtual content at any time.

In the production process, we imported a 1:1 structural model into Unity to simulate all visual effects and characters, in order to accurately present the layout that could be projected on-site later (due to the pandemic, we needed to quarantine for two weeks after returning to Taiwan, so we could only begin on-site adjustments a week before the opening). This helped us with obstructing and planning the flow of movement on-site.
